Synthetic Fuels in a Transport Transition: Fuels to Prevent a Transport Underclass

چکیده
The Paris Agreement set policy scenarios to address mitigating against the climate emergency, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions limit temperature increase 1.5°C. There has been a drive toward electrifying transport, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) at forefront. Reliance on single-technology development can lead consequential impacts, often not considered, or dismissed. Energy cannot be created destroyed but transformed. While BEVs may represent zero tailpipe emissions, energy must sourced elsewhere. An ideal scenario will come from “renewable” sources; however, current global mixes require electricity carbon-burning point source emitters. Therefore, are deferred low socioeconomic regions. move ban new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle sales accelerated. High BEV costs preclude low-income groups making purchases. Such typically rely used cars for mobility. Without considered analysis, transport underclasses result, where private is only accessible wealthy. Synthetic fuels derived CO 2 social bridge in transition, also helping accelerate net zero. Covid-19 lockdown provided unique opportunity experience an environment reduced transport-related emissions. Global studies allowed effects of pollution reduction studied. These surprising and offer policies, driven science, developed. Here, we consider clean air how these propose dynamic responses recommendations.

Microalgal and Terrestrial Transport Biofuels to Displace Fossil Fuels
Terrestrial transport biofuels differ in their ability to replace fossil fuels. When both the conversion of solar energy into biomass and the life cycle inputs of fossil fuels are considered, ethanol from sugarcane and biodiesel from palm oil do relatively well, if compared with ethanol from corn, sugar beet or wheat and biodiesel from rapeseed. When terrestrial biofuels are to replace mineral ...
متن کاملHydrocracking of the oils of Botryococcus braunii to transport fuels.
Hydrocarbon oils of the alga Botryococcus braunii, extracted from a natural "bloom" of the plant, have been hydrocracked to produce a distillate comprising 67% gasoline fraction, 15% aviation turbine fuel fraction, 15% diesel fuel fraction, and 3% residual oil. The distillate was examined by a number of standard petroleum industry test methods. This preliminary investigation indicates that the ...
متن کاملOptimization of Synthetic Oxygenated Fuels
Background Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from transportation sources will require implementation of a variety of strategies, including improvements in the efficiency of overall vehicle/fuel systems, such as hybrid and new high-efficiency diesel engines, and use of synthetic fuels to replace or supplement petroleum-based fuels. A particularly attractive class of synthetic fuels is oxyge...
متن کاملCharge Transport in Two-Photon Semiconducting Structures for Solar Fuels.
Semiconducting heterostructures are emerging as promising light absorbers and offer effective electron-hole separation to drive solar chemistry. This technology relies on semiconductor composites or photoelectrodes that work in the presence of a redox mediator and that create cascade junctions to promote surface catalytic reactions. Rational tuning of their structures and compositions is crucia...
متن کاملFuels With a High Enthalpy of Evaporation in Si Engine
The increasing use of fuels derived from oil, deepens concern about the fact that non-fossil fuels have to be considered as the fuels of the future. Among the alternatives, hydrogen produced from the abundant sources of water, seems to be one of the best, but it suffers drawbacks with regard to combustion, storage and transportation. The other alternatives are ammonia, produced from unlimited s...
